Nu Quantum
Project Brief
Nu Quantum, a pioneering quantum technology company, required the design and installation of specialist laboratory benching to support advanced research activities at their new facility within the Broers Building, Cambridge. The spaces needed to be highly functional, durable, and adaptable, with flexible storage and robust work surfaces suited to precision scientific work.
Location: Broers Building, Cambridge.
Value: £20,000
Contractor: Inuti
Benchmark FF&E Solutions was appointed to design, manufacture, and install the full fitted furniture package across three lab environments: Electronics Lab, Clean Lab, and Optics Lab. The brief emphasised strength, flexibility, and practical finishes to create a reliable and future-proof working environment.
Implementation
The specification included:
- 38mm thick postformed laminate worktops, providing robust and practical working surfaces
- Mobile drawerline storage units on castors, allowing flexible reconfiguration of lab layouts
- Steel cantilever and H-frame benching systems with adjustable feet for stability and adaptability
- Integrated reagent shelving and service spine framework to support lab equipment and services
- Stainless steel inset sinks with Aquanomic Monorise MonoBloc mixer taps for practical functionality
Solid plinth subframes with black MRMDF fascia kickplates, ensuring durability and a professional finish
Each laboratory was tailored to its intended use:
- Electronics Lab: Extensive benching and shelving with integrated sink and mobile drawerline units to maximise workspace and adaptability.
- Clean Lab: Compact but highly functional space featuring cantilever support, inset sink, and dedicated storage solutions.
- Optics Lab: Streamlined benching system with cantilever support to accommodate specialist optical equipment.
Result
The project was delivered to specification, snag-free, and on time.
Key outcomes included:
- Functional, Flexible Lab Spaces: Furniture designed to adapt to multiple research needs.
- Robust Work Surfaces: Durable laminate worktops provided long-lasting, practical benching.
- Integrated Services: Shelving, service spines, and inset sinks ensured complete functionality.
- Durable Construction: Steel support frames and MRMDF kickplates provided strength and resilience.
- Professional Finish: A clean, modern aesthetic suitable for high-tech research.
