Priscilla Bacon Hospice

Project Brief

Pricilla Bacon Hospice in Norwich is a specialist palliative care facility providing high-quality care and comfort for patients and their families. The project required comprehensive furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) to support clinical, therapeutic, and domestic spaces, ensuring safety, hygiene, and accessibility. Benchmark FF&E Solutions was commissioned to deliver a fully HTM-compliant fit-out, designed to meet the rigorous standards of healthcare environments, such as HTM 63 and HTM 71, while creating a welcoming, functional, and supportive environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Location – Norfolk, Norwich

Contractor – Morgan Sindall

Implementation

The project aimed to create safe, functional, and patient-centred spaces throughout the hospice. Key focus areas included compliance with HTM 63 and HTM 71, accessibility, hygiene, and workflow optimisation. Benchmark FF&E Solutions provided end-to-end project management, coordinating all furniture, fittings, and clinical equipment installation to ensure a seamless, on-time delivery.

  • Safety & Durability: All bedroom and clinical furniture, including bed head docking devices, hoists, and medical supply units, were constructed from robust, impact-resistant materials with secure wall fixings. Built-in wardrobes were reinforced for long-term durability in high-traffic areas. Worktops were specified to HTM 63 compliance, ensuring hygienic, durable surfaces suitable for clinical environments, while all structural and fixings met relevant load and safety standards.
  • Accessibility & Inclusivity: Adjustable-height worktops, HTM 71-compliant grab rails, and accessible fittings were installed to support patients with diverse mobility needs. Circulation paths and L-shaped curtain tracks were carefully specified to maintain safe, unobstructed access for wheelchair users and those requiring assisted care, meeting relevant accessibility regulations and guidance.
  • Hygiene & Practicality: Surfaces, finishes, and worktops were selected for compliance with infection control standards. Corian and laminate finishes in clinical and therapy areas were HTM 63-approved, while integrated storage solutions reduced contamination risk and facilitated cleaning. All junctions, edges, and fixings adhered to hygiene and safety best practice guidelines.
  • Secure Storage: Cabinets, cupboards, and modular storage units were specified to HTM 71 standards, including lockable compartments for medicines, clinical equipment, and personal items. Storage solutions maintained secure, organised, and compliant spaces throughout the hospice, ensuring both patient safety and staff efficiency.
  • Aesthetic & Environment: The design employed calm, neutral palettes with vertical blinds, coordinated furniture, and clear signage to create a structured yet welcoming environment. Therapy, lounge, and communal areas were designed to promote comfort and reassurance for patients and families.
